Sinus Rinses

Sinus rinsing can help remove debris, pathogens, and loosen thick mucous from the sinus and nasal cavities. This technique is used to find relief from allergies, pressure, headaches, chronic drainage, infections, as well as to experience other health benefits.

 Equipment & Supplies

TIPS/NOTES:

  • Follow the instructions for the equipment you purchase that is included with the device

  • ONLY used DISTILLED or STERILE water in a sinus rinse, regardless of which equipment you choose!

  • No known contraindications

  • Prepare before starting by taking a few breaths through the mouth, as this is how you will breathe during the rinse.

  • Lean over a sink as you do the rinse

  • Have a tissue ready, and blow gently after doing the rinse

  • Switch sides and irrigate through the other nostril, and blow gently into a tissue again

  • Rinsing while travelling is recommended since many rentals/hotels have mold, harsh cleaners, and other irritants to the sinuses! (We recommend the SinuPulse, but there are many options!)

ENHANCING YOUR RINSE

  • Move your head into different positions while rinsing (to get into various sinus pockets)

  • Do a “Surfer nose blow” following rinse.

    • Bend over all the way, “pop your ears” (plug and blow pressure into nose)

    • This helps to empty liquid out of the sinus pockets

  • If your sinuses feel plugged after a rinse:

    • Take a warm shower, put pressure on sinus pressure points

  • Adding to your rinse liquid

    • It is recommended to complete a few sinus rinses before adding additional compounds to the rinse liquid, to let yourself adjust to the process.)

    • Salt/saline packets

    • Para 3 (start with 1 drop, can increase up to 10)

    • CT-Minerals (start with a dusting from an opened capsule, can increase to 1/2 a capsule)

    • Colloidal silver

    • HM-ET Binder or Biotoxin Binder (open capsule, start with a dusting, increase as tolerated)

    • IS-BART, IS-BORR, IS-BOOST, IS-BAB

    • (Only use one of these products at a time in a rinse, don’t overload the solution! Note: adding supplements to your rinse may cause a burning sensation.)

Pros and Cons to the different nasal rinse systems:

NAVAGE PROS

  • Suction out the opposite nostril

  • Collection resevoir to see what comes out (if you’re into that)

  • A very thorough feel

NAVAGE CONS

  • The more expensive of the 2 options

  • Have to use salt pods for it to operate (although there is a hack if you don’t want to use the pods, view it here)

  • Only one pressure/speed setting, so it may be too intense for some

NEILMED PROS

  • Simple equipment

  • Less expensive of the 2 options

  • Speed and pressure is adjusted by person administering the rinse

NEILMED CONS

  • No suction, less thorough rinse
